Swansea man charged with stabbing his mom’s boyfriend

A Swansea man is facing three felony charges after he allegedly stabbed his mother’s boyfriend on Wednesday morning.

Andrew S. Walker, 30, of 239 Brackett St., was charged on Thursday with attempted first degree murder, aggravated battery with great bodily harm and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon by St. Clair County State’s Attorney Brendan Kelly’s office. Walker was jailed on $750,000 bail.

Swansea Police Chief Steve Johnson said the stabbing happened as part of a domestic dispute.

“There were family issues between a mother, her boyfriend and the mother’s adult son,” Johnson said. “The son stabbed his mother’s boyfriend.”

Police were called to the home where the three people lived at 5 a.m. Wednesday. Officers arrived in less than a minute and found the stabbing victim sitting on the porch with a wound to his chest.

Johnson said the victim’s wounds were not believed to be life-threatening.

It was the second time in two months that a domestic dispute in Swansea led to a stabbing. Sharetta Day, 38, and her 9-year-old son were stabbed in August allegedly by Day’s boyfriend. The woman died as a result of her injuries. Her son survived. The alleged attacker, Alvin Harris Jr., has been charged with first-degree murder.
