Troy woman who was getaway driver in 2013 bank robbery is sentenced

The woman who was the getaway driver the day her husband robbed a bank in O’Fallon in May 2013 was sentenced to nearly six years in federal prison, Southern Illinois U.S. Attorney Stephen Wigginton’s office announced Tuesday.

According to a statement, Denise K. Dodson, 45, of Troy will serve 70 months in prison followed by three years probation.

At noon on May 24, 2013, Dodson drove her husband, Steven Dodson, to the Scott Credit Union branch at 712 W. U.S. 50 so that he could commit a robbery. Court documents state Steven Dodson approached two credit union employees who were filling the outside ATM with cash and told them, “Get away, I have a gun.”

Steven Dodson left with $100,000 in cash and met Denise Dodson, who was waiting for him a short distance away from the bank. The two then fled.

Steven Dodson already was charged and convicted in connection with the robbery and was sentenced to 78 months in prison. The Dodsons owe $101,532 in restitution.
