Police are hoping for charges as soon as Thursday in connection with a stabbing at a Fairview Heights hotel.
“We’re still putting our case together,” Fairview Heights Police Department Lt. Mike Houget said. “Hopefully we’ll present it (to the state’s attorney’s office Thursday) or Friday at the latest.”
Hoguet said two people were in custody Wednesday night after police responded in force at 9:39 p.m. to the Drury Inn near the intersection of Illinois 159 and Interstate 64.
Two people were arrested at the scene. But, as of Thursday morning, Houget said only one person was still being held.
“Two were initially taken into custody pending further investigation into the incident,” Houget said. “One was released shortly after being taken into custody.”
Police have not yet released any details about what instigated the attack or the condition of the victim or that person’s identity. Houguet said Thursday only that the victim’s condition is unchanged from Wednesday night.
After the stabbing was reported, officers from at least six metro-east police departments rushed to the scene. They included the Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, Swansea and Caseyville police departments as well as Illinois State Police troopers and deputies with the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department.
Officers arrived at the hotel within minutes of the report and escorted paramedics to the injured person’s room. The victim was then rushed by ambulance to an area hospital.
