SIUE residence halls hit with car burglaries

News-Democrat

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is on alert after a series of car burglaries Monday night.

SIUE police were called at 11 p.m. to the first of four burglaries that appeared to have taken place after 9 p.m. Monday. Two burglaries were reported in the Woodland Hall parking lot, and two more at Prairie Hall. Both are student residence halls.

Police said video surveillance showed the suspects arriving on campus about 9:20 p.m., driving a white, four-door sedan that might be a Chevrolet Cruze. The suspects pulled the cars’ exterior locks with a tool, which caused extensive damage, police said.

Anyone with information about the burglaries is asked to contact the SIUE Police Department at 618-650-3324. All are reminded not to leave items of value in plain view, replace T-shaped door locks with straight or tapered locks, park in high-traffic, well-lit areas, use car alarms and be alert for people lingering or casually walking around a parking lot.
