Man accused of scamming Granite City relative

A Harrisburg man faces charges of forging checks belonging to an elderly Granite City resident.

Daniel J. Moutria, 52, of Harrisburg has been charged with felony exploitation of an elderly or disabled person, and four counts of forgery, a Class 3 felony.

The Madison County Sheriff’s dDpartment received a complaint in August alleging that Moutria had been forging checks and stealing money from checking and savings accounts belonging to a family member who lives in Granite City. The Madison County Sheriff’s Department and State’s Attorney’s Office investigated the complaint and filed charges.

The Harrisburg Police Department arrested Moutria on Oct. 30, coordinating with the Madison County Sheriff’s Department. He is currently in custody in Saline County and is being held pending bond or extradition proceedings. Bail has been set at $80,000.
