A 3-year-old boy was shot early Sunday after someone fired several rounds into a home in the 4700 block of Warnock Avenue in Granite City.
The boy was playing on the living room floor when the shooting occurred at 12:15 a.m., Madison County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Mike Dixon said. Family members transported the boy to a hospital before deputies arrived.
According to Dixon, three to four shots were fired into the front of the home from the roadway. Deputies believe the shots came from the occupant of a vehicle. One of those gunshots struck the boy in a shoulder, but he’s been treated and released from the hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
“A through-and-through,” Dixon said. “It didn’t make a substantial injury.”

Dixon also said deputies believe the home, which is on a dead-end street where police are not frequently called, was targeted by the suspects.
“I believe this wasn’t a random, accidental act. I believe the suspects targeted this home,” he said.
