Fairview Heights man accused of stealing cash drawers from mall kiosks
A Fairview Heights man was arrested Monday and faces charges for allegedly stealing cash drawers from kiosks at St. Clair Square Mall.
According to police, Sheldon D. Williams, 20, was taken into custody Monday after mall security spotted him running away from the Piercing Pagoda kiosk carrying a cash register shortly after 8 a.m. Police arrived to find Williams attempting to hide near the Sears store.
Police at the mall learned that a cash drawer from the LA Jewels kiosk also was missing. During their investigation they located both drawers. One was empty. Another had an undetermined amount of cash missing.
The incidents were similar to a theft reported in October, police said. In that case, someone matching Williams’ description was suspected of stealing a cash drawer from the Sunglass Hut kiosk.
Williams was charged Tuesday with two counts of burglary. His bond was set at $60,000.
