Belleville police say two attempted armed robberies that occurred early Sunday are believed to be random acts.
The first occurred at 12:51 a.m. Sunday in the 100 block of South 31st Street. The second occurred at 12:58 a.m. in the 100 block of North 27th Street.
Victims in both cases described the suspect as a black man with a fade-style haircut wearing a dark, hooded sweatshirt who jumped out of a vehicle brandishing a handgun and demanding money and valuables. The victims each ran off without giving up money or property. They were not hurt.
The victims each described the vehicle as a dark-colored Suzuki Grand Vitara. The vehicle was occupied by several other people at the time of each attempted robbery, police said.
