Potential Collinsville robbery ends with shot in the arm

A Collinsville man was shot in the right arm on Saturday night as he stopped a potential robber from entering his home.

The suspect knocked on the door and “identified himself as an acquaintance of the resident,” according to the police report. But after the victim opened the door, he didn’t recognize the man and saw he was holding a gun.

A struggle ensued, according to Collinsville Police, and the suspect fired a single round through the front door that hit the resident in the arm.

The suspect, who was wearing a black hoodie, ran off.

“Further investigation revealed that robbery was a potential motive and the suspect likely had some familiarity with the residence,” the police report stated.

The shooting occurred at 55 Idlerun Drive, which is in a higher-crime neighborhood, Detective Mark Kuechle said. The investigation was ongoing — police encouraged tipsters to call Kuechle at 618-344-2131 or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477 — but the injured man was reticent to help find his attacker.

“The victim is not cooperating in the case,” said Kuechle said.

Collinsville Police hoped someone else in the neighborhood saw something that can help track down the shooter.
