Belleville residents dealing with vandalism spree
Belleville residents have complained to police about a recent rash of vandalism to their homes and property.
According to reports, the damage to property has happened in the areas of North Third, East C and North High streets.
Belleville Police Department Sgt. Mark Heffernan said the problems are likely the work of youths.
“We recognize these type of incidents usually involve juvenile offenders,” Heffernan said. “But (police) are not ruling anyone out at this time.”
It happened during five days last week and included damage such as smashed light fixtures.
The police department’s juvenile division is leading the investigation. Police said there have been no arrests so far in the cases, which were characterized as unfortunately common. Police did not say if they had any suspects.
Residents of the affected areas have asked police to increase patrols there to put an end to the property destruction.
Anyone with information about the crimes can call the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212.
