A man and woman were shot on Easter morning in St. Clair County near Belleville in a domestic incident and a suspect turned himself in at the sheriff’s office.

The victims were treated for non-life-threatening injuries and released from a metro-east hospital, Capt. Scott Weymouth said.

Weymouth said investigators are expected to give their report to the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office and that charges could be filed on Tuesday.

Deputies were called to the 1900 block of Chevy Drive off Green Mount Road at 9:42 a.m. Sunday to investigate a shooting. The suspect had fled the scene by the time deputies arrived, Weymouth said.

The suspect surrendered a short time later. Weymouth said authorities have 48 hours in which to file charges after someone is arrested.

Weymouth said the victims and the suspect know each other, but he couldn’t release further details about the shooting, including the names of the victims and suspect.

Before the shooting on Easter morning, St. Clair County deputies had assisted the Swansea Police Department in the arrest of a man accused of attempting to rob a fast-food restaurant.
