Man shot in East St. Louis, taken to hospital
A man who has not been identified by authorities was shot Sunday in East St. Louis.
East St. Louis Police Chief Michael Hubbard confirmed a black male was shot Sunday at the intersection of 20th Street and Ridge Avenue in East St. Louis. No further details were immediately available. Hubbard said a detective accompanied the man to the hospital.
Traffic was blocked in all directions at the intersection as police officers appeared to be investigating the industrial area Sunday afternoon.
The shooting comes a day after the death of Preston Rockett, 31, of Belleville, who was found dead of a gunshot wound to the face about 1:26 a.m. in front of a house in the 1000 block of North 16th Street in East St. Louis. No motive was immediately apparent in Rockett’s shooting.
A previous version of this story misidentified the location as 20th and State streets.
