Belleville man faces three felony charges after Fairview Heights burglary

Police say a Belleville man was caught burglarizing a Fairview Heights apartment Wednesday. He’s been charged with three felonies and a misdemeanor.

Javierre M. Rice, 24, of Belleville was charged with residential burglary, a class 1 felony; unlawful possession of a firearm ammunition by a felon, a class 2 felony; unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon, a class 2 felony; and possession of cannabis, a class C misdemeanor.

At approximately 2:25 p.m. Wednesday, a neighbor in the 100 block of Ashley Drive in Fairview Heights called the Fairview Heights Police Department to report a burglary in progress. Police said the neighbor witnessed the suspect forcibly enter the apartment and make several trips back and forth between the apartment and a truck parked nearby, removing items from the residence each time.

Police located the suspect upon arrival at the scene, and he was taken into custody.

Bond has been set at $100,000. Rice is in custody at St. Clair County Jail.
