Store break-in may be similar to other incidents, police say

Authorities said a break-in at the Hibbett sporting goods store in Waterloo Monday morning may be similar to other instances involving the retailer that have been investigated by other agencies.

Waterloo Police Department is investigating the break-in reported Monday. Police said in a news release they are working with Hibbett Sports Asset Protection and other police agencies that have reported similar incidents involving Hibbett Sports in their jurisdictions.

Waterloo police said officers were dispatched to an activated burglar alarm at approximately 3:31 a.m. Monday. The first officer reportedly arrived on scene two minutes later and found the front glass door smashed out at the store located in a shopping center at 915 N. Illinois 3.

Store employees and police said they found clothing scattered inside and on the sidewalk in front of the business. Police said the store was searched, secured and later processed by the Illinois State Police Crime Scene Unit.
