Closing date set for sporting goods store

A sporting goods store in the metro-east that was built brand new in 2014 will close next week.

A Fairview Heights Sports Authority employee confirmed Wednesday the store would close July 27.

The sporting goods chain declared bankruptcy this spring in hopes of restructuring debt to keep some stores open. But that changed in May, and it was announced that the chain’s properties would be liquidated.

The Fairview Heights location has occupied a site at 6575 N. Illinois St. built brand new in 2014. Prior to that, it anchored a shopping center along Ludwig Drive.

Sports Authority locations in St. Louis will also close.
