The board of trustees at Southwestern Illinois College has a new board member — John Blomenkamp.
Blomenkamp, who took his oath of office at the May 1 board meeting, replaces Kenneth R. Joseph, who retired from the board. Joseph had served more than two decades.
Blomenkamp, 50, of Freeburg, declined a News-Democrat request for an interview.
He previously served on the school board at Freeburg Community Consolidated District 70 and on the Freeburg Grade School Education Foundation.
The Freeburg High graduate runs a farm, which has a 60-head cow/calf herd.
SWIC’s board of trustees unanimously approved a reduction in force of 47 full- and part-time positions at a special meeting last week. The dismissals are effective at the beginning of next fiscal year, July 1.
