Kids invite firefighters, their superintendent to game of basketball
To celebrate “the end of their reign” before they head off to junior high, the sixth-graders at Douglas Elementary School challenged some special guests to a game of basketball, according to their teacher.
Sixth-grade teacher Claire Smith said Belleville District 118 Superintendent Matt Klosterman was among the players to visit the school for the May 17 game. The students also took on some of Belleville’s firefighters, including captains Joe Ellison and Jason Unverzagt, firefighter Josh Owens and engineer Rodney Lofton.
“Everyone had a blast,” Smith said in an email.
