Now is the time for high school and college students to apply for scholarships available through local organizations and businesses.

Here’s a list of area scholarships up for grabs:


What: Millstadt Civic Club $1,000 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicant must live in the Millstadt Consolidated School District 160; have a minimum 3.0 grade point average; proof of college acceptance; submit a one-page essay describing involvement in extracurricular activities in school and community; submit a one-page essay describing intended major in college, why it was chosen and future career plans; and two letters of recommendations.

What: Madison County Sheriff John Lakin $500 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicant must be a permanent Illinois resident planning to attend an institution of higher learning within the state as a full-time student.

What: Illinois Land of Lincoln Chapter of American Society of Comptrollers scholarship

Qualifications: Applicant must be a graduating high school senior interested in entering a field of study related to financial/resource management.

What: Mathis, Marifian & Richter, Ltd Scholarship has three $1,000 scholarships available.

Qualifications: High school seniors must reside in St. Clair County, Madison County or Washington County, be planning a career as an attorney, have a minimum 3.0 grade point average, achieved an ACT score of at least 26 or SAT of at least 1180, rank in the upper 25 percent of the graduating class, and be involved in school activities.

What: Rotary International District 6510 is offering three scholarships.

Qualifications: Any high school senior living in District 6510, which includes St. Clair County, with a “B” grade average is eligible to apply.

What: Nine scholarships will be awarded through the Illinois Pork Producers Association scholarship program for the 2015-16 school year: three gold scholarships for $2,000 each; three silver for $1,500 each; and three bronze scholarships for $1,000 each.

Qualifications: Applicants must be currently enrolled as an undergraduate or be enrolling to begin in the fall of 2015 to be eligible. Applicants must have been a 4-H or FFA member. Applicants must submit a completed application form, transcripts, list of activities and a typed essay identifying how they plan to contribute to the pork industry.

What: Turkey Hill Grange has three $1,000 scholarships available.

Qualifications: A student needs to submit a one-page letter of application, which includes a short essay of 200 words or less about where he or she expects to be in five years after completing high school or other training. The student must have a 3.0 grade point average.

What: Optimist Club of Millstadt is offering four $1,000 scholarships.

Qualifications: Students applying must reside in Millstadt Consolidated School District 130 and will attend an accredited college or vocational school next school year.

Application: Available from school counselors at Althoff Catholic High School, Belleville West, Gibault Catholic High School and Freeburg High School.

What: Association of Operating Room Nurses $500 scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants should be interested in the field of perioperative nursing. Students must be currently enrolled in an accredited registered nurse program, an Illinois resident and have at least a B average.

What: Anderson Hospital Auxiliary Sponsored $1,000 Scholarship, State of Illinois Sponsored $1,000 Scholarship and Medical Staff Sponsored $1,000 Scholarship

Qualifications: A student seeking a healthcare profession.

What: Thouvenot, Wade and Moerchen, Inc. is offering three $1,000 scholarships.

Qualifications: Applicants must be pursing an engineering or land surveying bachelor’s degree during the fall 2015.

What: Greater East St. Louis Community Fund Scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be a resident of East St. Louis or Brooklyn; have a high school grade point average of 2.5 or higher; and be accepted by an accredited college or university.

What: Great River Workforce Development Corporation, Inc. scholarship

Qualifications: Applicants must be 2015 high school graduates entering Lewis and Clark Community College, Southwestern Illinois College or Kaskaskia College in the fall. Students must reside in either Madison or Bond counties.
