Elvis is in the building ... and hounding retiring Red Bud principal on senior prank day
Red Bud High School’s retiring assistant principal wasn’t able to finish out the last few days of the school year without a little schoolhouse rock.
Kevin Cartee is retiring after 33 years in education, the last 15 of which were in Red Bud. To celebrate, the senior class raised money for an Elvis impersonator to follow him around two hours.
Cartee said that when he was called down to a class and saw the impersonator, he initially thought it was just for one quick skit — he was wrong. Elvis trailed Cartee down school halls with microphone in hand, amplifier in tow and a never-ending serenade of rock-n’-roll classics fit for The King.
“It was the longest two hours of my life,” he said. “They really got me.”
Seniors Taylor Luthy and Molly Ellner encouraged their classmates to add $5 or $10 to the fund. Luthy said they got the idea from Tik Tok, where they saw a video where students hired a mariachi band.
Luthy said that since Cartee was retiring and served as the main disciplinary administrator at the high school, they thought it would be funny to give him a send-off.
