Charity Eugea, who is currently an assistant principal at Collinsville High School, will be the principal of Maryville Elementary beginning in the 2025-26 school year.

Next school year, Charity Eugea will work with a very different group of students than she does now.

Eugea, a current assistant principal at Collinsville High School, has been hired as the next Maryville Elementary principal. Doug Kirk, Maryville Elementary’s current principal, will be an assistant principal at Collinsville High School.

“My favorite part of returning to an elementary school is the opportunity we have at this level to develop our students’ love of learning —the chance to inspire their curiosity and foster their creativity,” Eugea said in a press release.

As Eugea mentioned, this won’t be her first rodeo at the elementary level. Before coming to Collinsville, Eugea was principal of Evansville Attendance Center, which serves kindergarteners through 8th graders. She previously taught 3rd, 4th and 5th graders in the Waterloo School District where she grew up, the press release said.

Eugea’s education also plays into her strong local pride. She received her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary education at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, as well as her doctorate in educational leadership, the press release says.

Eugea and her family reside in Waterloo, but she also identifies as a Kahok, and soon a Maryville Warrior.

“I am proud to be a Kahok, and excited to be a Maryville Warrior,” Eugea said in the release. “With that pride and excitement comes a deep sense of purpose and responsibility to help shape a better world, (through) every student, every lesson, everyday.”

Collinsville Community Unit School District 10’s Superintendent Brad Skertich explained in the release why Eugea is a good fit for her next role.

“Dr. Eugea has a passion for working with primary and elementary students and is committed to continuous growth,” Skertich said. “She takes pride in building strong relationships with families and staff, and her student-centered approach shines through in everything she does.”

Eugea’s new role isn’t the only administration change in the district. Bobby Wright, who is also currently an assistant principal at Collinsville High School, will be the school’s principal next school year.
