Which St. Clair County school districts pay their teachers the most?
The recent release of the 2024-25 Illinois Report Card provides insight into which St. Clair County school districts pay teachers the highest salaries.
Released late last month, the Illinois Report Card tracks the average annual salaries of teachers by district and individual schools. The calculation divides the sum of all teachers’ salaries in a school or district by the number of full-time equivalent teachers, the report explains.
Here’s what the data show about St. Clair County teachers’ pay:
Belleville’s two largest districts pay the most in St. Clair County
Out of more than 20 St. Clair County school districts—including Collinsville Community Unit School District 10, since parts of Collinsville are in St. Clair County—Belleville Township High School District 201 and Belleville School District 118 have the highest average teacher salaries, according to the report card.
In Belleville 201, teachers earn an average of $85,574. In Belleville 118, the average is $83,030.
“Investing in strong teachers leads to better student outcomes, more stable school environments and long-term benefits for our entire community, which is why we believe this investment is both necessary and responsible,” District 118 Superintendent Ryan Boike said.
Belleville 201 and Belleville 118 are the only two school districts in St. Clair County whose average teacher salaries exceed the statewide average of $78,495.
“Our teacher salaries are higher than the state average because we place a strong and deliberate emphasis on recruiting and supporting highly qualified faculty and staff,” District 201 Superintendent Marshaun Warren said. “This commitment reflects our belief that talented, dedicated professionals are the foundation of the best possible school environment and experience.”
The BND did not include Brooklyn Unit School District 188, as its reported average teacher salaries at two of its schools—approximately $27,000—appeared potentially inaccurate, and the district did not respond to multiple requests for verification.
