Southwestern Illinois College in Belleville has confirmed that it is getting a football team and more information will be released Monday.

“Big things are coming to SWIC! Our football team is set to kick off in Fall 2027 — stay tuned for more updates as we build something special!” the community college commented on a Facebook post by Southern Illinois Sports with Chris Dexter.

Dexter’s post includes a screenshot of a job listing for a new, full-time head football coach. The listing, posted on SWIC’s website as well as other websites, says the position’s work location is the “Belleville Campus with district-wide responsibilities.”

Kristi Ham, associate director of marketing and communications for SWIC, told the Belleville News-Democrat that more information will be released Monday.

Ham said SWIC didn’t want to detract attention from their women’s basketball team’s National Junior College Athletic Association national championship tournament run. The previously undefeated team lost in the Sweet 16 to Eastern Arizona and finished the year with a record of 32-1.
