Second group of metro-east teachers could strike

With East St. Louis teachers on strike for a month, a second metro-east district may soon see educators walk off the job.

Alton teachers have filed notice of intent to strike and could hit the picket lines as soon as Tuesday if they are unable to come to an agreement with administrators.

Teachers say they accepted a $2,000 reduction in step increases for the 2014-15 school year. Now the district has proposed a new contract without restoring the raises and with higher employee contributions for insurance.
