Water pipe break cancels classes at East St. Louis school
Lincoln Middle School students were released at 9 a.m. on Monday because of a water pipe break, according to East St. Louis District 189 officials.
Kelly Hawkins, the district’s spokesperson, said the school’s heating system “malfunctioned” over the weekend.
“As a result, water froze and a burst pipe flooded the seventh grade hallway of the school,” she said. Parents were notified by email and phone, she said.
All school activities, including sports and extra-curricular activities, were canceled.
Hawkins said classes are expected to resume Tuesday.
