Scholarship application season is in full swing
Several organizations are offering scholarships for next year’s college student.
2016 Regions Riding Forward Scholarship Essay Contest
Eligible: High school seniors and college students
Award: One Illinois high school senior will win $5,000; one college student will win $3,500 from Regions Bank
Due date: Feb. 25
Apply by: Calling 855-670-4787 or emailing contactus@applyists.com. Applicants will be judged on their essays of 500 or less words on “how an African-American individual has served as an inspiration to the applicant and should discuss the contributions of that individual,” according to a news release.
FamilyFarms Charities
Eligible: High school seniors planning to pursue college training related to agriculture
Award: Two $1,000 awards, eligible for $500 next three years if maintain career path and grades
Due date: March 15
Apply by: Downloading an application at www.familyfarmscharities.org. Winners selected on career plans, desire to return to their family farm, grades, test scores and essays about the future of agriculture.
Millstadt Civic Club Scholarship
Eligible: High school seniors in the Millstadt Consolidated School District 160
Award: One $1,000 scholarship from the Millstadt Civic Club
Due Date: March 31
Apply by: Submitting a high school transcript with a minimum 3.0 GPA; proof of acceptance to an accredited college, university or community college; a brief essay describing how one extracurricular school or community activity influenced the applicant; a brief essay on the intended major and future career plans; and two letters of recommendation. 2016 Township Officials of Illinois Scholarships
Eligible: High school seniors
Award: Seven $1,500 scholarships from the Township Officials of Illinois
Due Date: March 1

The Chad Wood Memorial Scholarship
Eligible: High school seniors who live in Swansea
Award: Two $3,000 scholarships
Due Date: April 1

The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes
Eligible: Ages 8 to 18
Award: $5,000 awards to 15 students to support their service work or higher education
Due Date: April 15
Apply by: Going online for an application and more details at www.barronprize.org/apply. The Gloria Barron Prize for Young Heroes celebrates public-spirited young people and will award those “who have made a significant positive impact on people, their communities, or the environment.”
Southwestern Illinois College Foundation
Eligible: Incoming SWIC students, current SWIC students and graduating SWIC students with plans to transfer
Award: More than 250 scholarships in amounts from $100 to $5,000
Apply by: Going online for an application and details at www.swic.edu/foundation, emailing scholarships@swic.edu, or calling 618-235-2700. Most scholarships require Community College District No. 522 residency and a GPA of 2.0.
