Attention students: Scholarships available throughout metro-east
Several organizations are offering scholarships for next year’s college student.
Turkey Hill Grange
Eligible: Seniors at Belleville East, Belleville West, Althoff, Mascoutah, O’Fallon Township and Governor French high schools
Award: Three $1,000 scholarships
Due: April 5
How to apply: Applications are available at each school and includes a 200-word essay on where the student expects to be in five years after high school graduation. Call Burt Wikgren at 618-539-0172 for more information.
Optimist Club of Millstadt
Eligible: Reside in or have graduated from Millstadt Consolidated School District and attend an accredited college or vocational school next year
Award: Five $1,000 scholarships
Due: April 9
How to apply: Applications are available at Althoff, Belleville West, Freeburg and Gibault Catholic high schools
Great River Workforce Development Corporation, Inc. Scholarship
Eligible: High school graduates entering Lewis & Clark Community College, Southwestern Illinois College or Kaskaskia College. Students must be residents of either Madison or Bond County.
Award: $1,000 scholarships, which are funded through local business, education, labor and government partners
Due: June 10
How to apply: Awards determined based on grade point averages, references and essays about career goals

Madison County Sheriff’s Office
Eligible: Illinois residents who will be enrolled as a full-time student within the state
Award: One $500 scholarship
Due: March 15
How to apply: Application and essay question are available at the Madison County Sheriff’s Office at 405 Randle St. in Edwardsville or online at www.ilsheriff.org.
Anderson Hospital
Eligible: Residents of Madison, St. Clair or adjacent counties seeking health-care careers
Award: $1,000 scholarship
Due: April 15

St. Elizabeth Health Foundation
Eligible: Residents of Madison or St. Clair County who will be full-time students majoring in health care
Awards: Several scholarships, non-renewable, up to the $15,000 Jerry Costello Healthcare Scholarship Award
Due: March 2
How to apply: Scholarship awarded on academic excellence, character and demonstrated leadership; financial need is not a consideration. Application includes an essay about “What are your plans after graduation?” To apply, go to http://sms.scholarshipamerica.org/saintelizabeth.
