SWIC names employees of the year; approves hires, contract
The Southwestern Illinois College named the school’s full-time and adjunct faculty members of the year.
Mark Bosworth, Industrial Technology Program coordinator at SWIC, was chosen as the school’s Outstanding Faculty Member of the year in the full-time category.
“Bosworth’s skills have achieved local, state and national recognition at the annual Skills USA Competition, routinely earning top honors,” SWIC spokesman Mike Fleming said. “He worked with students to create the SWIC dune buggy, an all-electric vehicle, and helped develop Manufacturing Day, which promotes technical education to area high-schoolers.”
Fleming said Bosworth serves as chair of the National Tooling and Machining Association’s Education Committee and has been awarded the Clips and Clamps award from the Precision Metal Forming Association twice in the last five years and has been instrumental in raising thousands of dollars for student scholarships.
Krista Olson, adjunct instructor in Biology as its part-time faculty member of the year.
“Since 2011, Olson has established herself as an asset to the Biology Department,” Fleming said. “She encourages students to participate in student life and activities to enhance their learning experiences.”
She is the advisor of the SWIC Beta Iota Iota chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Society and volunteers her time in Red Bud area youth activities.
Fleming said the nominees receive a plaque and will compete with nominees of other state community colleges for the opt full-time and adjunct faculty members in Illinois.
