Scholarship opportunities for high school seniors
Deadlines are rapidly approaching for some local scholarship opportunities for area high school students.
Dr. Willard C. Scrivner Public Health Foundation
Eligible: High school seniors who live in St. Clair County and will pursue a health-related field.
Award: Three $500 scholarships
Deadline: April 1

Collinsville Education Scholarship Foundation
Eligible: Collinsville resident and a 2016 graduate of a school within Collinsville
Award: $1,000, number depends on funds
Deadline: April 8

Junior Service Club of Edwardsville/Glen Carbon
Eligible: Female high school seniors of Edwardsville High School, Metro East Lutheran High School or Father McGivney Catholic High School with a GPA of at least 2.5
Award: $1,000, two awards
Deadline: April 15

Metro East Pride
Eligible: Illinois residents 17 and older
Award: Two $250 scholarships
Due: May 2
How to apply: Submit a minimum two-page essay, in Times New Roman 12-point type, about how Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex and Asexual characters (not actors) in TV and movies have affected the way you view yourself and the gay community. Also, describe an LGBTQIA character (not actor) who has had a positive impact on your life. Send the essay in a .pdf file and include your name, address, phone number and email on the cover letter.
Jessica Uhl Memorial Student Scholarship
Eligible: Preference to incoming first-year Southern Illinois University Edwardsville student who is a graduate of Collinsville High School with an overall B average, pursuing a major in applied communication studies or mass communications
Award: $500, one-time award
Deadline: June 30
