Breese-area students taking $14,000 in scholarships

Fourteen healthcare career students each won a $1,000 scholarship from the Auxiliary at HSHS St. Joseph’s Hospital in Breese. The students are going into nursing, physical therapy, pharmacy, dental hygiene and healthcare administration.

They are:

▪  Clare Chiarolanza, of Aviston, is attending the University of South Carolina to become a pediatric nurse practitioner

▪  Sophia Fields, of Breese, is working toward her doctorate degree as a nurse practitioner at the University of Southern Indiana near Evansville

▪  Noel Loepker, of Bartelso, is seeking an upper division bachelor of science in nursing degree from the Barnes-Jewish Goldfarb School of Nursing in St. Louis

▪  Heather Maue, of rural Breese, is pursuing a bachelor of science in nursing degree from Maryville University in St. Louis

▪  Melanie Mensing, of rural Breese, is taking classes toward an associate of science in nursing degree at Kaskaskia College

▪  Erica Spihlmann, of Breese, is studying for a bachelor of science in nursing degree from McKendree University in Lebanon with an eventual goal of becoming a nurse practitioner

▪  Kylee Beth Wuest, of Breese, is currently at Kaskaskia College for her associate of science in nursing degree

▪  Jordan Groennert, of Trenton, is pursuing classes toward a doctor of physical therapy degree at Maryville University in St. Louis

▪  Sydney Hitpas, of Breese, is seeking a doctor of physical therapy degree from St. Louis University

▪  Kirsten Thomas, of Beckemeyer, is attending classes at Kaskaskia College to become a physical therapy assistant

▪  Kate Williams, of Trenton, is working toward her doctor of physical therapy degree from Maryville University in St. Louis

▪  Dawson Ratermann, of Damiansville, is attending St. Louis College of Pharmacy for a doctor of pharmacy degree

▪  Sydney Taylor, of Breese, is seeking an associate in applied science degree in dental hygiene at John A. Logan College in Carterville

▪  Alexander Vandeloo, of Bartelso, is pursuing graduate-level classes in healthcare administration at St. Louis University

Registration

▪  Mascoutah schools are registering returning students at Mascoutah High School the last week of July. Students whose last names start with the letters A-J can register from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 26; last names K-Z can register from 10:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. July 27. If students in a family have different last names, parents can register them at the same time.

Parents of students new to the district should call the school directly for registration information. For Mascoutah Elementary, call 618-566-2152; for Scott Elementary, call 618-746-4738; for Wingate Elementary, call 618-746-4802; for Mascoutah Middle, call 618-566-2305; and for Mascoutah High School, call 618-566-8523.

▪  Signal Hill District 181 students who are returning or new to the district and not yet registered can call the district at 618-397-0325. Registration dates, by appointment only, are 8 to 11:30 a.m. from July 19 through July 22.
