High school students want your food donations at their football game
Spurred by news that the Interfaith Food Pantry in Belleville was severely short on canned goods for the 600-plus families it serves, the Belleville West student council began collecting non-perishable food donations.
Principal Rich Mertens sent a verbal notification to Belleville West students and parents on Thursday evening, urging them to bring non-perishable items to the football game Friday night.
“When we saw the article about how depleted (the Interfaith Food Pantry) was, it spurred the student council,” he said Friday morning.
The student council is accepting canned vegetables, canned fruit and boxed foods at the game.
The football game, against non-conference Batavia High School, starts at Belleville West at 7 p.m.
