‘Desperate need of pies.’ Person breaks into shop, leaves cash for pies, MO cops say
With grocery stores packed the week of Thanksgiving, it’s easy to miss something on your list as you hurry through the crowds to get home.
Could this be what sparked an unusual chain of events in Missouri? We may never know. But one thing is certain: Someone really needed pie.
It was Thanksgiving day in Ballwin when police noticed an open door at Honey Baked Ham, a franchise featuring meats and desserts, then went inside to check it out, according to a news release.
During their search, officers found an unusual sight: cash and a note with a comical explanation. Police posted a photo of the message to Facebook.
“Happy Thanksgiving,” the note says. “No one was here and we were in desperate need of pies. Left money, took pies. Thanks!”
The photo shows the desperate shopper left at least $6 with a third bill hidden under the other two. It hasn’t been reported how many pies the desperate shopper took and if the cash would have covered the bill, but according to the company’s website a pecan pie costs $18.95.
Police are investigating the incident, WJW reported.
Ballwin is roughly 25 miles west of St. Louis.
