Drunk driver who slid off road picks the wrong home to ask for help, Indiana cops say

A drunk driver slid off the road in her Dodge Charger and got stuck, Indiana police say.

She picked the wrong home to go asking for help.

The 30-year-old woman went off the side of a road in Howard County, Indiana, shortly before 1 a.m. Tuesday and couldn’t drive her way out, according to a news release. She walked to a nearby house to get assistance, police said.

A Tipton County sheriff’s deputy who was off duty at the time answered. The deputy took the woman into custody when she tried to go back to the car and leave, police said.

An Indiana state trooper arrived at the house to investigate and found that the woman’s blood alcohol concentration was .198 — more than twice the legal limit, police said.

The trooper also learned that the woman left her 10-year-old daughter alone at home, police said. The child was put in the care of child services.

Tabitha Mitkus, 30, of Kokomo, Indiana, was charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated and neglect of a dependent.
