Miss going to the movies? Walmart unveils list of its parking lot drive-in theaters

If you’re eager to get back to the movie theater, Walmart has some very exciting — and socially distanced — news.

The coronavirus pandemic left theaters across the country closed, movie releases rolled back and popcorn uneaten. But there’s good news: Walmart is teaming up with the Tribeca Film Festival to bring drive-in theaters to 160 Walmart parking lots across the country.

The retailer announced the plan last month and on Wednesday revealed the participating locations, schedule and movie lineup.

The outdoor cinemas will kick off on August 14 and run through October 21, with each participating Walmart parking lot hosting a drive-in theater for two nights.

Participating stores are located in Alabama, Arkansas, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Jersey, New Mexico, Nevada, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia and West Virginia.

Tickets are free, but won’t be sold at the gate. They must be requested in advance, Walmart said. Tickets can be reserved at TheWalmartDriveIn.com starting Aug. 5 at 5 p.m. ET.

Once moviegoers choose their date and location, they’ll receive an email with a QR code that will allow their vehicle entry on the day of the event.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. with the movie to follow at 7:30 p.m. But be sure to be on time! Late entry isn’t allowed, Walmart said.

The lineup features a wide array of films including “Wonder Woman,” “Space Jam,” “Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse,” “Ghostbusters” and “Black Panther.”

Those attending will need to ensure they have a functioning FM radio so they can hear the movie, Walmart said. Moviegoers will be required to wear masks when outside the car.

Alcohol is not permitted and each car must only have as many passengers as there are seatbelts, according to the company.
