Toddler, teen die when Jeep slams into car stopped for flat tire, New Orleans cops say

Two children are dead and a man is critically injured following a crash on a south Louisiana highway Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred just before 4 p.m. when authorities said a Lexus sedan was rear-ended on Interstate 510 South near I-10, according to the New Orleans Police Department. Authorities said the Lexus was stopped in the roadway due to a flat tire.

An adult male and two kids, ages 2 and 15, were inside when the driver of a dark-colored Jeep Wrangler slammed into the back of them. All three were taken to a local hospital where the children later died, police said.

The condition of the Jeep’s driver wasn’t known as of Tuesday.

The coroner’s office is working to identify the children killed in the crash and will determine their official cause of death following autopsies and the notification of relatives, according to police.
