‘We just want her home.’ Family worries about Colorado woman missing in snowstorms
A woman who vanished after calling for help on a snowy Colorado highway remains missing two weeks later, worrying her family.
Melinda Tafoya-Deltoro, 38, called 911 for help at 4:30 p.m. Mountain time Feb. 13 in the Miner’s Candle area, the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office reported Feb..16, according to McClatchy News..
She told dispatchers she was “stuck in the snow and possibly under duress,” sheriff’s officials said. Deputies found her vehicle but no sign of her after an extensive search.
Freezing weather conditions in Colorado are of special concern to her family.
Thursday’s low in the Miners Candle area, about 40 miles west of Denver, was in the teens and the high is expected to be in the low 20s, with a 30% chance of snow.
“It’s just scary to hear that she got lost in the mountains and then the snowstorm that came through,” Mario Suazo, her brother, told KDVR. “If she got lost it’s pretty hard to make it out of that. We just want her home safe.”
Sister Monique Avila said Tafoya-Deltoro’s children ask for her daily.
“We just don’t know,” she told KDVR. “It’s the unknown right now.”
Deputies ask that anyone with information call 911 or 303-679-2354. Anonymous tips may be left at crime_tips@clearcreeksheriff.us.
