The body of a 15-year-old boy was found after he slipped and fell into the water near a Georgia dam while fishing on June 5, officials said.

Alex Escobar Carreto’s body was found at 1:33 p.m. on June 6 using a remote-operated vehicle, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources. Milledgeville Fire Department divers recovered Carreto’s body.

The Georgia DNR got a call about the incident, which took place 3:15 p.m. Sunday, June 5, WGXA reported.

Bystanders noticed the 15-year-old fishing at Lake Sinclair Power Dam near Milledgeville when he slipped into the water, the release said.

People nearby tried to help the teen out of the water but were unsuccessful, according to the fire rescue.

The water close to the dam is “turbulent” and known as the Trail Races, Georgia DNR Sgt. Bubba Sanford told WGXA.

After an unsuccessful search on Sunday, Georgia DNR and the Baldwin County Fire Department called in the Sumter County Dive Team to assist with the search, according to the fire rescue.

Georgia Power redirected the water flow from the dam to help searchers.

Milledgeville is about 93 miles southeast of Atlanta.
