A man and woman who were boating on a Texas lake were killed after they entered the water from the boat they were on, according to local authorities.

“Somehow, the boat ran over the victims,” Canyon Lake Fire Chief Robert Mikel said in a statement to McClatchy News.

Authorities say the two were fatally injured by the boat’s propeller in a cove north of Canyon Lake Marina.

First responders were called to Canyon Lake at about 4:40 p.m. Friday, June 10. Before help arrived, the victims had been pulled from the water and given CPR.

They were later pronounced dead at the lake.

Others were still on the boat when the two were run over in the lake, according to a news release from Canyon Lake Fire and EMS.

The 54-year-old man owned the boat, Mikel said. Authorities have not said his relation to the 22-year-old woman or others who were on the boat at the time of the incident.

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Comal County Sheriff’s Office are investigating their deaths. The fire department has not publicly identified the victims.

Canyon Lake is about 45 miles northeast of downtown San Antonio.
