Diane Sawyer’s Martha’s Vineyard estate lists for $24 million. See why it’s ‘legendary’
Iconic news anchor Diane Sawyer has placed her even more iconic property known as “Chip Chop” on the market in Martha’s Vineyard for $24 million.
The Massachusetts estate, which is considered “legendary” around the island, sits on 20 acres on Vineyard Sound.
“The property has lived large in Martha’s Vineyard lore since the 1940s when it was built for celebrated Broadway star Katharine Cornell,” the listing on Sotheby’s International Realty says. “For many decades it has hosted a broad spectrum of well-known figures from the worlds of literature, theater, cinema, and politics.”
According to People, Sawyer and her late husband, filmmaker and theater director Mike Nichols, bought the spacious property in 1995. The home consists of 10 bedrooms, 11 bathrooms and comes with two separate lots — one is 17 acres and the other is 2.84 acres.
“A mile of private shoreline surrounds the property, including 2000 feet of sandy beach on the exquisite swimming waters of Vineyard Sound, and a large swath of sandy beach on Lake Tashmoo,” the listing says.
Along with the main house, there’s a two-bedroom caretaker’s cottage and two beach houses.
Features, per the listing, include:
Swimming pool
Ocean views
Tennis court
Deck
Security system
Tile flooring
Hardwood flooring
Gardens
Four-plus fireplaces
The listing is held by Mark Jenkins of Wallace and Co. Sotheby’s International Realty.
