India says safe, unimpeded maritime flows vital for global economic well-being

NEW DELHI - Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar said on Thursday that "safe, unimpeded maritime flows" through international waters, including the Strait of Hormuz and the Red Sea, are vital for global economic well-being.

"We must also address the increasing resort to unilateral coercive measures and sanctions inconsistent with international law and the UN Charter," Jaishankar said in his speech at the meeting of BRICS foreign ministers in New Delhi.

BRICS includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Ethiopia, Egypt, Iran, the United Arab Emirates and Indonesia.
