Madison County Board member Clint Jones, 44, who represented District 27, died unexpectedly Friday.

Jones, a Republican, had served on the board since 2016 and acted as the chairman of the facilities and sewers committees.

“It is with great sadness we learned of Clint’s passing,” Chairman Kurt Prenzler said in a statement. ““Clint will be sorely missed. His experience with the Village of Maryville public works department prepared him well for the county board and as a committee chair.”

County Coroner Stephen Nonn said Saturday afternoon that although a precise cause of death has not yet been determined, an autopsy showed extensive coronary artery disease. He noted the death appeared to be cardiac-related.

Jones is survived by his wife, Heather Muller Jones and three children.

County board member Chris Guy, R-Maryville, added to Prenzler’s sentiment in a statement, calling Jones a best friend and noting his love for his family.

“His commitment to public service was second to nobody I have ever known,” he said. ““He was always there when I needed him. Clint was also a mentor to me and many others.

Funeral arrangements have yet to be announced.
