Did Bost, Davis and Miller keep campaign promises to Illinois? Check our report card.
It’s campaign season, and congressional Republicans in southern Illinois want to convince voters to send them to Washington, D.C. again.
They’ll get their messages out using millions of dollars for advertising, campaign rallies and door-knocking. But what have U.S. Reps. Mike Bost, Rodney Davis and Mary Miller accomplished in their current terms?
The Belleville News-Democrat reviewed campaign promises from 2020 and compared them to legislation and key votes since the lawmakers were seated on Jan. 3, 2021.
A year in Congress is hardly any time at all. Lawmakers often have to push for their bills across multiple terms, even then with no guarantee of success. Unlike Bost and Davis, Miller is in her first term and hasn’t had as much time to promote her agenda. To account for this difference, the evaluation does not include past accomplishments.
To consider their stances on key issues under the Biden administration, the BND also looked at votes on big pieces of legislation, such as infrastructure and COVID-19 pandemic response.
While Bost so far remains the only prominent Republican candidate in the 12th Congressional District, Davis and Miller will compete for the GOP nomination in the newly drawn 15th District in June.
Davis and Bost both said they’ve kept the promises they made to voters. Miller did not respond to multiple interview requests.
Here’s the list of campaign promises and corresponding bills, if any.
