David Raynaud
David Raynaud

Name: David M. Raynaud

Age: 50

Occupation: Pastor

Office sought: County Board District 26

Party affiliation: Republican

Why are you running?: I have spent my life helping people and solving problems and I believe I can bring those skills to the County Board. I also understand what it means to lead while serving people.

What is the biggest issue facing St. Clair County, and how should elected officials and county staff approach it?: Improving the philosophy of serving — people serving in county government must always keep in mind they are impacting people’s lives with their decisions and spending other people’s hard earned money. In that, every decision made and every dollar being spent should be considered and reconsidered as to its impact and true necessity. Elected officials and county staff should approach their task not as a private business they are trying to grow, but as a public service to the people they serve for the common good.

What are your views on MidAmerica Airport, and how should the county handle the future of the airport?: Hindsight is always 20/20 and controversy inevitably surrounds every decision made by a leader (or leaders). That said, governmental bureaucracies have proven they cannot run as efficiently as the private sector, and Mid-America Airport is no exception. Taxpayers have been required to invest heavily in a venture that has given them little if any return. Again, county government is not a private business, it is a public service for the common good. If Mid-America Airport cannot or does not function to serve the common good, it should not be a venture for the county government, it should cease to be a burden on the taxpayers and all options to that end should be considered.

What improvements do you want to see in how the county is run?: The public trust, which is the county government, should constantly seek to lower the burden of taxes on the people of the county by reducing spending and eliminating wasteful programs, constantly seek to shrink government by decreasing bureaucracies and promoting a healthy environment for small and large business, and constantly seek to restore and maintain integrity to the process of serving by providing greater transparency and accountability at all levels of the decision making process.

Do you plan to serve the full term of office?: Yes.

Why should people vote for you?: For the same reason I am running. Because I have spent my life helping people and solving problems, I understand what it means to lead while serving and I have a genuine concern for the well-being of the residents of St. Clair County.
