Office sought: St. Clair County Board Member - District 10
Party affiliation: Democrat
Previous elected positions and years served: Currently serving as County Board District 10 board member
Why are you running?: It has been a great honor over the years to serve my neighbors on the county board. I would like the opportunity to continue that work, helping to make our neighborhoods and our community stronger. I am proud of our accomplishments in county government, but, more than anything else, I am proud of the many individuals I have been able to help by making county government work for them.
What is the biggest issue facing St. Clair County, and how should elected officials and county staff approach it?: Strong, safe neighborhoods are the foundation of our county. As a county board member, this has been my top priority. It is our job as county board members to give the sheriff’s department the resources they need to serve the public and keep them safe. But it isn’t just about law enforcement. All of us have a role to play. County-supported programs like Clean Sweep and Neighborhood Watch bring people together to make our neighborhoods better places to live.
What are your views on MidAmerica Airport, and how should the county handle the future of the airport?: I am a strong supporter of our veterans and the military and I want to make certain the county retains Scott Air Force Base. Scott is central to our county’s economy and the many patriotic Americans who have served there and have chosen to make their homes here have helped make St. Clair County an even better place to live. MidAmerica and the joint use airport played a central role in keeping the base from closing. In the last few years, we have seen real progress at MidAmerica with a new airline and new flights, plus the addition of Boeing and North Bay Produce. We are on the right track and need to continue our efforts to make the airport successful.
What improvements do you want to see in how the county is run?: In my years on the county board, I have seen a lot of changes for the better. County government is more professional at every level. County employees are more focused on customer service. The county board is more open and more accessible to the public. These are all changes for the better, but we can’t stop trying to improve. The most important thing is for us to remember that we are public servants, accountable to our neighbors who have place their trust in us to represent them in county government.
Do you plan to serve the full term of office?: Yes.
Why should people vote for you?: As a county board member, my number one priority has been serving my neighbors. I am always available to take calls, answer their questions and, if I can, solve their problems. Over the years, I have learned how to make county government work for the people of my county board district. I would be honored for my neighbors to give me their trust as their county board member.
