BND election coverage plan aims to provide the primary results you need
Plans for coverage of Tuesday’s Illinois primary are taking shape in the BND’s newsroom.
But first things first.
Other than the candidates for president, do you know what’s on your local ballot? You can find information about contested local, state, U.S. House, U.S. Senate and judicial races in the politics section at bnd.com. We also have a list of six local referendums.
We gave candidates the opportunity to respond to a questionnaire so that you can learn about their background, why they are running, their goals and where they stand on the issues. Most did respond, and you can read their answers in these candidate profiles.
If you see a candidate’s name without a link to their responses, that means they didn’t bother to complete a questionnaire. It’s up to you to interpret what that means and why a candidate wouldn’t take every opportunity to inform voters.
We will also run the candidate profiles in print over the next few days.
Meanwhile, our coverage for next Tuesday - primary day - will be built around giving you frequently updated results at bnd.com, starting after the polls close at 7 p.m.
We will be closely tracking races for St. Clair County board, Madison County board, Madison County state’s attorney, Clinton County state’s attorney, the 12th, 13th and 15th congressional districts, state house races and others.
And we’ll be reporting on local referendum results, including the proposed merger of Alorton and Centreville and whether voters want to allow marijuana stores in O’Fallon and in Highland.
You can follow our reporters covering the primary on Twitter as well. They are: Mike Koziatek, @MikeKoziatekBND; Kelsey Landis, @kelseylandis; Lexi Cortes, @lexicortes; Carolyn P. Smith @CarolynSmithBND; Kavahn Mansouri, @kavahnmansouri; Hana Muslic , @h_muslic; Derik Holtmann @BNDphoto; and Teri Maddox @BNDwriter.
If you are a traditional print reader, now is a great time to learn how to activate your digital account so you can get election results as we collect them, rather than waiting until Thursday’s print or e-edition.
