Less than 2 weeks away, Election Day is Nov. 8. Here are some other IL dates to know
With the midterms less than two weeks away, voters are running out of time to make their selections and prepare to cast their ballot.
Early voting has been underway in Illinois for almost a month, but for those who haven’t voted – or those curious about the process – we’ve rounded up some important dates to know.
Monday, Oct. 31: The last day for military and overseas voters to request an absentee-by-mail ballot.
Illinois voters who cast their ballot under the Uniformed and Overseas Citizens Absentee Voting Act can request a ballot online.
All Illinois voters are eligible to vote by mail, no excuse needed.
Thursday, Nov. 3: The final day to request your mail-in ballot in Illinois by mail or electronically. Registered voters can request their ballot online through the state’s portal.
Voters can request a mail-in ballot in-person up until the day before the election under Illinois law.
It is also the final day to make an application to your respective county election authority to conduct voting at a nursing home, mental health or long-term care facility.
Friday, Nov. 4 to Monday, Nov. 7: Election officials will conduct voting in person at nursing homes, mental health and long-term care facilities who applied for the service.
Monday, Nov. 7: The final day of early voting in Illinois, which has been taking place since Sept. 29.
It is also the final day to request a mail-in ballot in person.
Tuesday, Nov. 8: Election Day. Polls in Illinois will open at 6 a.m. and remain operating until 7 p.m.
All voters in line by 7 p.m. will be able to cast their ballot. Voters must visit their assigned precinct.
Under Illinois’ grace period, those who are not already may register and vote at the same time.
Thursday, Nov. 10: Voter registration opens once more in Illinois for 2023 elections.
This is also the deadline for county elections officials to disclose the number of remaining uncounted ballots from the Nov. 8 general election.
Tuesday, Nov. 15: The deadline for those who voted a provisional ballot to provide supporting documentation to their county clerk for their ballot to be considered and potentially counted.
Tuesday, Nov. 22: The deadline for county elections officials to count all mail-in and provisional ballots from the Nov. 8 election.
Tuesday, Nov. 29: County canvass.
Friday, Dec. 9: Illinois State Board of Election canvass. The board will “proclaim” and certify the results of the election.
