Southwest IL has a COVID-19 positivity rate below 8% for second day in a row

For the second day in a row, the positivity rate for COVID-19 testing in the Metro-East Region 4 stayed below the 8% threshold that triggered tighter restrictions on businesses back in August, the state of Illinois reported Monday.

The daily positivity rate for the seven-county region is 7.3%. The region includes Madison, St. Clair, Monroe, Clinton, Randolph, Bond and Washington counties.

Coronavirus: Latest

It’s the 10th day in the last 11 in which Region 4 saw its positivity rate fall.

St. Clair County Board Chairman Mark Kern reiterated his previous comments about appealing to Gov. J.B. Pritzker to release the region to Stage 4 of his Restore Illinois Plan during a daily briefing live-streamed on Facebook.

He also noted that St. Clair County’s numbers don’t match those of the seven-county region. For five days, the county has had a rolling average below 6.5%.

“Our businesses, our county — they’re complying,” Kern said. “ … If other counties are not, and their numbers are high, don’t lump us in with them.”

A total of 275,735 Illinois residents have tested positive for COVID-19, and 8,457 people have died. More than 5.1 million tests for COVID-19 have been conducted, including 74,000 in a single day.

Illinois ranks third in the country for the number of daily tests over the last week, behind California and New York, according to a press release from Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s office. Southwestern Illinois COVID-19 statistics

ZIP code-level numbers below are provided by the state each afternoon at dph.illinois.gov/covid19/covid19-statistics. Madison and Macoupin counties compile their own statistics by ZIP code later in the day, so the numbers may differ from what appears on the Illinois Department of Public Health’s website. The Belleville News-Democrat reports the information county health departments provide.

ZIP codes with fewer than five cases of the virus are not reported by health officials. The number in parentheses after each ZIP code below reflects the change from the previous day’s cumulative total. A decrease reflects a correction.

All other information comes from local health departments. The “recoveries” figure refers to the number of people who completed the required isolation period in most counties.
