15-year-old killed when his dirt bike collided with a pickup in rural southern Illinois

A 15-year-old was killed and his 13-year-old passenger was injured when a motorcycle failed to stop at an intersection and struck a pickup truck in Richland County, according to the Illinois State Police.

The identities of the two teenagers were not released.

The accident happened about 11:30 a.m. Monday at the intersection of Jasper and Chestnut streets in the village of Calhoun, about 120 miles east of Belleville.

The 15-year-old boy was driving a Honda CRF 250 dirt bike west on East Chestnut and “ failed to stop at the stop sign and

proceeded into the intersection” at Jasper Street, colliding with a pickup truck, a state police report said.

The teen died at an area hospital. His passenger was airlifted to another hospital. His condition was not reported.

The driver and two passengers in the pickup truck were not injured.
