Flying anchor kills Illinois boater on Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri police say

A boater was killed after an anchor hit him on the Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri police say.

Craig Gathmann, a 55-year-old from Manito, Illinois, was driving the boat with the anchor in the water Wednesday evening, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Tension in the rope caused the anchor to fly out and hit Gathmann, police say.

Gathmann was taken to Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, where he was pronounced dead.

It’s the second boating death on Lake of the Ozarks this year, the Associated Press reported.
