15-year-old rescued after jumping off Navy Pier on 19-degree day, Illinois cops say
Illinois officials rescued a teenager after she jumped off the Navy Pier in Chicago into the water during a frigid afternoon on Jan. 10, police said.
The 15-year-old was standing on the edge of the pier when she jumped into Lake Michigan, Chicago police said in a news release.
Chicago police and marine unit officers worked together during the incident. After initially throwing the teenager a life ring, the marine unit stepped in to safely get her out of the freezing water, officials said in the release.
After the rescue, the teen was taken to a nearby children’s hospital, the release said.
The high in Chicago on Jan. 10 was 19 degrees, with a low of 8 degrees.
