Powerball jackpot soars to $370M. Here’s where big winners bought their tickets in IL
Tuesday marks Powerball’s 30th year in business, and Wednesday’s jackpot has soared to a $370 million prize.
Illinois lottery participants have been in luck lately, as a $1 million winning Powerball ticket was sold in Marseilles April 16. In February, a $2 million ticket was sold in Girard.
Ten years ago, a couple from Red Bud won a Mega Millions prize and took home $218,666,667 (or $158 million after taxes, according to an Illinois Lottery supervisor). Patricia and Merle Butler were the winners after buying a $3 quick pick ticket from the MotoMart in Redbud.
Thirteen lottery tickets with winnings between $1 million and $2 million have been sold in Illinois since January 2021. Other locations in the state where the high-dollar tickets have recently been sold include Cambria, Shawneetown, Naperville, Springfield, Taylorville, Sterling, Chicago and Marion.
Powerball drawings are held at 9:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Tickets are $2 each, with an option to purchase $1 additional tickets for the chance to multiply non-jackpot prizes.
For those at least 18 years old, you can purchase Powerball tickets for Wednesday’s draw online.
